HELLO!

I’m Abi and I created Abilingo in 2024 to bring language learning to life. I think learning another language should be enjoyable, practical and accessible, and through personalised and relaxed classes, you can feel confident using your languages on holiday, backpacking, moving abroad or making new friends. I offer in-person classes locally, and online classes to learners all over the world.

MY GOAL

My students take classes for lots of reasons, from wanting to retire abroad, to travelling around the world, starting a new job and connecting with new friends and family. My goal is to make the classes as bespoke and useful to you as I can, whilst building your confidence and giving you the key vocab and grammar to communicate with others.

MY BACKGROUND

I studied a BA in French and Spanish (University of Warwick) and later an MA in Translation and Localisation (University of Nottingham), enjoying history, language and culture modules, as well as specialising in digital translation and localisation during my MA. I taught English when living in Spain, as well as helping to run a speaking club in the evenings, where English and Spanish speakers could come together and enjoy a language exchange. I have previously worked in start-up and corporate businesses, and use this experience to help build on the themes for my ESOL classes.

TEACHING APPROACH

My classes focus on themes that are interesting and practical, with useful vocab and language that you can use in real-life situations, especially when abroad! We will spend most of the time on conversation practice to build your confidence and fluency. As everyone has different goals and schedules, I keep my teaching style relaxed and flexible, so we can personalise the lessons based on your goals!

MY INTERESTS

I lived in Galicia in Spain during my studies and enjoyed exploring Spain and Europe during this time. I have also travelled in Canada, Peru, New Zealand and Australia, and found both French and Spanish to be useful when speaking to locals and when making friends along the way!
